The New Eccentrics Present: MANIFESTO! a Preview

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

MANIFESTO!The New Eccentrics invite you to participate in their first preview of MANIFESTO!
This is the show we’re taking to the Comic Book Theatre Festival and this show is to workshop the material and raise some funds for travel.

Lauded as “truly innovative and engaging,” The New Eccentrics come from the underground West Coast variety scene to present a Dada-cabaret, pop-up book/live graphic novel.
Their unique style stitches together surrealist puppetry, high fashion design, and the history of vaudeville trickery, creating a seamless magical world that brings the comic strip into the third dimension. With their feet planted in a vintage circus/variety tradition and their minds soggy with the frayed media of the YouTube generation, they expose the hidden structure of myth, illusion, and wonder, weaving them all together with immersive madcap chaos and blurring the line between reality and symbolism.

plus a few special guests tba….

Comic Book Theatre Festival

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011
Woohoo! The new Eccentrics have been accepted for the Comic Book Theatre Festival in NY, NY!

The Comic Book Theater Festival

The influence of comics on our culture continues to grow. From the pop fantasias of Hollywood blockbusters to the rawness and refinement of intimate memoirs—and everything in between—it’s impossible to deny the wide appeal of comics’ words and images. The theater, of course, is no less immune to its spell. This summer, The Brick will invite one of history’s newest art forms to meet one of its oldest—and, through collaborations between visual and dramatic artists, the form and content of comics will collide with the content and form of theater to create strange new hybrids across both media.

Here are the entire lyrics to the song done with projector.

Thrown out into the streets into a god-forsaken land
I stole and I pilfered for my nutrition
‘Til I was caught in someone’s pocket,
But was praised for nimble hands
Instead of prison, I was apprenticed to a magician

Ten thousand hours he drilled me in the secrets of his trade
As enchantment soon turned to it’s antitheses
Turns out it’s mostly cheating folks out of the hard earned cash they made
While your soulless self puts up a cruel mimesis

(But I held out hope
Or was it fantasy?
True magic would exist
At least for me
On his deathbed my mentor pulled be closer
And this is what he whispered to me)

It turns out Magic
Exists in your mind
We’re all just suckers
Looking for the next good time
And I’ll love you
if you just put me on
So lie to me
Reality is just a con

Politicians priests and lawyers are just a bunch of grifters
Your belief can make your life go anyway
I’ve seen people make themselves
Saints, whores and drifters
But mostly I see monsters everyday

Jesus Fucking Christ!
(Repeat ad nauseum with audience)
But mostly I see monsters every day!
