With their feet planted in a vintage circus/variety tradition and their minds soggy with the frayed media of the YouTube generation, they expose the hidden structure of myth, illusion, and wonder, weaving them all together with immersive madcap chaos and blurring the line between reality and symbolism.

The Comic Book Theater Festival

The influence of comics on our culture continues to grow. From the pop fantasias of Hollywood blockbusters to the rawness and refinement of intimate memoirs—and everything in between—it’s impossible to deny the wide appeal of comics’ words and images. The theater, of course, is no less immune to its spell. This summer, The Brick will invite one of history’s newest art forms to meet one of its oldest—and, through collaborations between visual and dramatic artists, the form and content of comics will collide with the content and form of theater to create strange new hybrids across both media.

The 2011 Humboldt Juggling Festival!


March 17th to the 20th
Humboldt State University in Arcata, California

11th Annual Humboldt Juggling Festival & Benefit Show at HSU March 17-20 

Free show for kids as international talent gather with Humboldt State students and community members to present the 11th annual Humboldt Juggling Festival.  Free workshops in juggling and circus arts March 17-20 in the HSU East Gym 10a.m. to midnight.  Come early for the fabulous show Shazzam! an outstanding display of skill, creativity, and darn good entertainment comprised of homegrown and world-class juggling talent that plays benefit to the hosting organization the Humboldt Juggling Society, Saturday March 19 at 7pm.  $10 General.  $7 Students/Seniors.  $2 off coupon for visiting the Festival Welcome Desk in the East Gym.  Kids 12 and under free with accompanying adult.  Followed by a world class fire show in HSU’s Art Quad.  For a full schedule of the weekend’s events go to www.humboldtjugglingsociety.org.

The benefit performance Shazzam! held in HSU’s Van Duzer Theater features performers from many walks of the modern circus and juggling performance communities: Brad Weston from Chicago with Letterman and Leno on his resume, one of Youtube’s most watch jugglers Kyle Johnson, Canadian dance-juggle innovator Bekka Rose, Ringmaster of Portland’s Wanderlust Circus Noah Mickens, the son of an original Flying Karamazov Brother Jasper Patterson and partner’s project truly earns them their name The New Eccentrics, local favorites The Poetic Motion Machine and A’OK the Clown and so many more.  Kids 12 and under free with accompanying/paying adult!  $10 General.  $7 Students/Seniors.

The Humboldt Juggling Society has been a community organization for three decades, and this 11th annual festival promises to be an event jam packed with juggling and circus arts not to be missed or forgotten soon after.  Free Workshops are scheduled all weekend long, learn to juggle, spin poi, engage your inner clown, or expand your own interests and skill sets.  This event is made possible by a grant from HSU Associated Students.
